Predictive Function of Context in Simultaneous Interpretation

Abstract

Context is crucial for discourse analysis and it also has a great impact on interpretation. It is the linguistic and extra-linguistic knowledge that linguistic expressions rely on. Based on the nature of context, prediction or anticipation becomes possible in simultaneous interpretation. This paper discusses the predictive function of the context in simultaneous interpretation, and it is hoped that the discussion of the predictive function of context can cast some light on the training of simultaneous interpretation.
